Dispute Resolution Expertise

Rob is a Patent Attorney Litigator, Chartered Patent Attorney, European Patent Attorney and a representative before the Unified Patent Court. He has extensive experience of contentious matters before the English courts, the UK IP Office (IPO) and the European Patent Office (EPO).

Rob conducts patent and design infringement litigation in the Patents Court and IP Enterprise Court for major clients such as Baker Hughes, Freyssinet and Strix. For example, Rob’s team successfully defended a claim of infringement against Freyssinet, and secured partial revocation of the patent; they also successfully handled the subsequent appeal proceedings.

Rob has also been involved in high profile disputes such as the Virgin Atlantic Airlines aircraft seating litigation where he, along with Dehns colleague Chris Davies (Consultant), were part of the team handling the English litigation and appeared for Virgin before the EPO Board of Appeal on the related opposition proceedings. The case was particularly notable because it included consideration by the Supreme Court of the effect of patent amendment on a damages award.

Also before the EPO, Rob has extensive experience of oppositions and appeals practice for other major clients, such as The Coca-Cola Company, Equinor and Kimeberly-Clark. In addition, Rob conducts revocation and entitlement disputes before the UK-IPO.

Rob is also experienced in advising on the conduct of international disputes, particularly involving Norway, for clients such as Equinor and Baker Hughes.

In addition, Rob has a substantial practice advising on contentious IP matters, especially concerning patent and design infringement matters for clients ranging from small and medium-sized enterprises to the household names mentioned above.
