Background

Tom is a UK and European Chartered Patent Attorney who joined Dehns in May 2021, having previously joined the profession in 2018. Prior to this, Tom obtained a degree in Physics and Astrophysics from the University of Birmingham.

Tom qualified as a UK Patent Attorney in 2022 and European Patent Attorney in 2023.  He became an Associate of the firm in 2025.

 

Type of clients and client work

Tom works with clients of all sizes, from individual inventors to multinational corporations, helping them obtain protection for their intellectual property in a large number of jurisdictions including the UK, US, Europe, China, Japan, and Australia. Alongside extensive patent drafting and prosecution experience, Tom has worked on a number of more contentious matters, including Opposition and Appeal cases before the EPO (European Patent Office).

 

Expertise

Tom works predominantly in the fields of engineering and physics, and has particular experience with automotive technology. Other previous subject matter includes medical devices, aerospace components and fluid valve controls.
