Katherine joined Dehns in 1999, having graduated from Oxford University with a First Class Honours Degree in Physics. She became a Partner in 2011 and handles patent work in various fields including physics and telecommunications. She also handles design work. Katherine is a representative before the Unified Patent Court.

Katherine has particular experience in oppositions and appeals before the European Patent Office and has been regularly involved with cases since joining Dehns in 1999. Throughout this time she has represented Kimberly-Clark in both offensive and defensive opposition and appeal cases. Highlights have included involvement in cases which contributed to the development of the Appeal Board’s approach to “unclear parameters”, and the successful revocation of a patent on appeal based on prior use. Katherine also handles opposition work on behalf of clients in other fields, such as gas turbine engines.

Based in the Brighton office, Katherine also drafts and prosecutes patent applications in a diverse range of fields of physics and engineering, including satellite navigation systems, packaging, oil drilling systems, personal care articles and medical devices. She also advises on infringement and validity of patents in the above fields.
