Background

David is a Chartered (UK) and European Patent Attorney in Dehns’ chemical group.

After graduating from the University of Cambridge with a Master’s Degree in Natural Sciences (Chemistry), he joined Dehns in 2017 and is based in the firm’s London office. Having spent the early years of his life in Switzerland, he has a good working knowledge of German.

David became an Associate of the firm in 2023.

 

Type of clients and client work

David works with clients of all sizes, from individuals and SMEs to large multinationals. Many of his clients are based outside of the UK, particularly in Norway. As a result, he has extensive experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications both in Europe and around the world (including in the USA, China, Japan, Korea and the Middle East).

David has also represented clients in opposition and appeal proceedings at the European Patent Office, for example in 2025 when he ensured that his client’s opposed patent relating to polymer compositions for plastic pallets (EP-B-3545034) was maintained in substantially unamended form.

 

Expertise

David has experience handling work in a wide variety of technical fields including polymer chemistry, organometallic catalysis, nutraceutical chemistry, pharmaceutical chemistry (including drug delivery), energy storage (including battery materials), and industrial coatings and paints.
