Amitha joined Dehns in 2023 as a qualified European Patent Attorney, having previously worked in private practice in Munich since 2016.
After obtaining a Master’s degree in Materials Science from Anna University, India, Amitha completed a PhD in Physics at the Universität Augsburg in 2012. She subsequently held postdoctoral research positions at the same institution before moving into the field of intellectual property. She also worked as a Research Associate in the field of alternative energy technology at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM) and as a Physics Lecturer at Stella Maris College, Chennai, India.
She qualified as a European Patent Attorney in 2022.
Amitha handles patent matters before the European Patent Office, including drafting and prosecuting patent applications, as well as representing clients in examination, opposition, and appeal proceedings in written and oral proceedings.
She regularly coordinates with patent attorneys and agents in other jurisdictions to develop and implement international patent protection strategies.
Amitha works with clients across a range of industries and is fluent in English, German and Tamil.
Amitha’s knowledge and experience cover a range of technical fields, including physics, materials science, semiconductor devices, electronics, automotive technology, mechanical engineering, medical devices and telecommunications.
She has particular experience in inventions relating to advanced materials, semiconductor technologies, electronic systems and automotive technologies, including autonomous driving systems, battery-swapping technologies and alternative energy solutions.
Her practice is supported by a strong academic and research background in materials science and applied physics.
Amitha has also been a mentor in the European Patent Institute’s student mentorship programme since 2025.
