Adrian has a significant amount of contentious expertise. At the EPO, he has managed more than 30 Opposition cases over the last few years. In one recent example this included working on behalf of client to have a 3rd party’s patent claims restricted, but, through detailed technical expertise and knowledge of the case, Adrian was able to have all the patent claims annulled, providing the client with a much better outcome than they were originally expecting.
Adrian also has significant experience in providing pre-litigation support, to help secure commercially favourable outcomes when a dispute arises, and in providing support during litigation, working alongside litigators in the UK, US and Germany to develop strategies based on a deep technical understanding and insight into commercial objectives. It recent years this has included providing advice and support during litigation to several mechanical engineering clients in the UK in patent and design infringement matters, and providing expert support to a high tech client’s US legal team in a patent litigation matter as well as coordinating related UK High Court litigation.
Adrian is regularly singled out and recommended in the leading legal and IP directories for his contentious work; for example, the Legal 500 stated that Adrian is “excellent in opposition proceedings’, while in MIP’s IP Stars directory (where he has been named as an ‘IP Star’ for the last few years), he was described as “pragmatic and skilled at oppositions”.
In 2022, Adrian was named in the “IAM Strategy 300: The World’s Leading IP Strategists” publication for 2022.
