Dehns recently welcomed fourteen students to spend two weeks on our 2023 Summer Scheme.  The students came from a range of different universities studying STEM and law related degrees.

The students were given a real insight into a career as a patent attorney.  For the duration of the scheme, each student was allocated a “buddy”, worked on live projects with Technical Assistants and Partners, and presented their experience of the scheme to the firm.

The students were rotated across three of our offices: London, Oxford and Brighton. This provided them with the opportunity to experience life in a different city, embrace the culture of Dehns and meet colleagues from outside of their fee earner groups. Social events were organised in each of the three offices.

We received excellent feedback from our 2023 Summer Scheme cohort, with students stating:

“The Dehns Summer Scheme provided an excellent first-hand opportunity to learn about all aspects of a career in IP. The tight knit, inclusive community at Dehns, alongside the generosity of the partners with their time, enabled me to learn a lot over the 2 weeks and consolidate my interest in patent law.”  – Jawwad, Summer Scheme Student

“My experience on the Dehns Summer Scheme has been crucial in helping me establish what aspects of a firm like Dehns help create a supportive environment for trainees to grow and progress.”  – Sukaina, Summer Scheme Student

The Dehns Summer Scheme was a brilliant experience, and I am so grateful that I was selected to participate in it. I learned a lot about IP and it gave a real insight into the work that trainee patent attorneys undertake; something which is hard to find out about. Every Dehns employee that I met was so kind and welcoming, and I would recommend the scheme to anyone with an interest in pursuing IP as a career!”  – Andrew, Summer Scheme Student

It was a pleasure to have the students working at Dehns over the two weeks. We wish them all well in their remaining studies.
