A standout example of the impact of engineering on sustainable development is the work of Dehns’ client, MyEnergi, a UK-based company designing and manufacturing renewable energy products for the home. MyEnergi’s “zappi,” an eco-smart electric vehicle charger, and the “eddi,” a controller for solar power generation systems, helps homeowners optimise their energy usage and reduce their carbon footprint.
Another example of innovative technology in the sustainable engineering sector includes the work of another client, ProCarbon, who have developed a method of upcycling waste materials into bio-carbon stone—a revolutionary construction material that helps reduce carbon footprints and sequesters carbon for decades. By combining charcoal with cashew nut shell liquid, ProCarbon is not only tackling climate change but is also creating economic opportunities for cashew-producing communities. Their innovative process transforms waste into a valuable product, showcasing how engineering can turn environmental challenges into solutions with lasting, positive impacts.
Equally exciting is the work of our client, The Fish Friendly Hydropower Company and their pioneering PicoStream floating turbine. The PicoStream provides 24/7 clean electricity from rivers, while protecting aquatic ecosystems; a crucial advancement for clean energy generation. Using recycled ocean plastics and revolutionary fish-friendly design, the PicoStream offers a scalable solution for the 940 million people worldwide lacking reliable electricity access. Its rapid installation and minimal environmental impact make it a game-changer for global clean energy adoption, and we are thrilled to support their ground breaking efforts.
We are equally proud that both ProCarbon and The Fish Friendly Hydropower Company were recently nominated by CIPA for the prestigious Earthshot Prize. The award celebrates cutting-edge solutions that address the world’s most pressing environmental challenges.
As a firm, we are also committed to sustainability in every aspect of our operations. We are proud to be Planet Mark certified, an internationally recognised certification that highlights our ongoing efforts to reduce our environmental impact and contribute to a sustainable future.
On this World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development, we salute the engineers and innovators who are creating solutions for a more sustainable world. At Dehns, we are honoured to work alongside them, supporting their efforts through our intellectual property expertise and turning innovative thinking into valuable commercial assets for our clients. Together, we are shaping a brighter, greener future.
