Background

Dr Coreena Brinck is a UK Chartered Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney with over 20 years of experience advising innovative businesses on the protection and commercialisation of intellectual property. Her career spans private practice and in-house roles at organisations including Nokia Technologies, BT, Nortel Networks and AI start-up Intui. Coreena joined Dehns in 2026.

Coreena has extensive experience working with technology companies across the UK, Europe and the Nordic region, particularly in AI, software, communications and emerging technologies. She is also active in initiatives focused on the responsible use of artificial intelligence in the IP profession and is a recognised commentator on AI-related IP issues.

 

Type of clients and client work

Coreena advises clients ranging from venture-backed start-ups and university spin-outs to multinational technology companies with in-house teams. She supports clients in developing commercially focused IP strategies aligned with business and investment objectives, including building and managing international patent portfolios.

Her work includes drafting and prosecuting patent applications before the UK Intellectual Property Office and European Patent Office, as well as advising on freedom to operate, patentability, due diligence, licensing and dispute-related matters.

 

Expertise

Coreena specialises in computer-implemented inventions and complex technology platforms, with particular expertise in artificial intelligence, machine learning and software technologies. Her work covers areas such as generative AI, data platforms, cloud and distributed computing, cybersecurity and digital marketplaces.

She also has significant experience in telecommunications and networking technologies, including 3G to 5G and emerging technologies, as well as IoT systems. In addition, her practice spans fintech, med-tech and digital health, and emerging areas such as quantum computing and sustainable technologies.
