This is an exciting opportunity for a driven, bright and enthusiastic individual to join the team at one of Europe’s leading IP law firms. You will be joining an established BD team to help create, support and drive business development activity and implement firm-wide plans.

This role is responsible for delivery across all areas of business development and marketing; support will be required during various campaigns in addition to key BD areas such as: winning new business; working on directory submissions, supporting internal and external events, involvement in digital and social media activities, and undertaking important research work. Your tasks will be broad and diverse, requiring adaptability and a can-do attitude.

We are looking for someone who is engaging, enthusiastic and fun, to roll up their sleeves, be pro-active and make a difference to the firm.

High levels of organisation and flexibility will be essential, together with the ability to manage and prioritise an ever-changing workload with a real focus on quality, attention to detail and client care. We work to tight deadlines, juggle multiple projects and deliver under pressure.

Although reporting to the Senior BD Executive, this role would involve working with the other members of the BD team on a variety of interesting projects and initiatives.

BD Assistant – role and responsibilities

Below are the proposed roles, responsibilities and activities for the BD Assistant; however, these are not exhaustive.  The main activities that will be undertaken on a regular basis:

Events

  • Creating event invitation lists for internal events
  • Designing event invitations for internal events
  • Collating event responses for internal events
  • Event research for external events
  • Venue research for internal and external events
  • Event supplier research
  • Other support for Dehns events as and when required

 Research and data

  • Competitor research and analysis
  • Supporting on various research projects
  • Creating marketing lists
  • Data cleansing projects
  • Company research e.g. at science parks
  • Incubator and hub research
  • Assistance with data collection and input for Planet Mark (environmental) project
  • Research using various internal and external systems/platforms

Digital

  • Web profile set up and content input for new starters
  • Minor website content changes/updates/article uploads
  • Creation of social media promotional images
  • LinkedIn profile creation and assistance for fee earners
  • Ad hoc social media posting
  • Basic use of Photoshop (training will be provided)
  • Preparing, designing and editing professional presentations as required

Directory Submissions

  • First drafts of directory submissions and collating relevant information, stats and data
  • Directory reminder emails to attorneys (e.g. for case studies and client referees)
  • Attendance of directory related webinars

Collateral, merchandise and design

  • Tracking and administration of collateral
  • Design work as and when required (e.g. PDF amendments, re-sizing imagery (e.g. headshots)
  • Creation/amendment of PowerPoint presentations

Other

  • Maintenance of Agent Schedule of Fees
  • Enquiry spreadsheet maintenance
  • Shutterstock account – identifying suitable images and filing photos in the photo library
  • Filing and folder maintenance
  • Invoice payment processing
  • Assistance to other team members as and when required

Type of person

Experience of a marketing or business development role in a professional services role, particular experience in a law or patent attorney firm would be advantageous OR a recent graduate with the desire and motivation to start a career in business development and marketing

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent standard of written English and proof-reading skills
  • Good IT skills including Microsoft Office applications – Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Adobe Creative Cloud including InDesign and Photoshop experience would be an advantage
  • Proactive, diligent and methodical with a strong focus on detail
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Engaging, enthusiastic and fun.
