Change in UK Trade Mark Opposition Period

The UK Intellectual Property Office (UKIPO) has just published a notification that it has changed its practice with regard to the calculation of the period for filing an Opposition to a UK trade mark application. As a result of this change in practice, any UK Opposition deadlines falling on or after 30 September 2010 will now expire 1 day earlier than would have been the case under the previous practice.

We would therefore advise that you carefully check any watch notices, UKIPO notifications or other communications you have received from us reporting forthcoming UK opposition deadlines, and note that the Opposition deadlines will now expire 1 day earlier than indicated.

If you have any questions relating to this change in UK practice or its effect on you/your clients, please contact your usual trade mark attorney at Dehns.
